FAQs

Why must production companies follow the Department of Transportation rules & regulations?

It’s the law. If you hire a driver for a commercial vehicle (10,001+ GVWR), such as a production cube, you must abide by all DOT rules. This is federal law – not just in California.

Who needs dotPC?

Studios, networks, streaming platforms, and commercial production companies.

DOT compliance can be a long, tedious, and often confusing process. dotPC starts by getting your company (or project) compliant. We then help you maintain compliance by managing all your DOT needs on and in between jobs and assisting during audits. We are flexible and will work with your company whether you need dotPC for all or just a portion of your DOT compliance needs.

My company is non-union. Do these rules still apply?

Yes, the same rules apply whether your company is union or non-union.

Now that I have a DOT number, what must I do when a job is awarded?

You are legally obligated to follow DOT laws when hiring drivers on your shoots. It’s a lot more than just logs! We can provide trained dotPC Assistants to manage all documents or support your Transportation Department.

What is a dotPC Assistant?

dotPC Assistants are extensively trained in DOT and FMCSA laws to maintain compliance while safekeeping all driver qualification documents to prepare your company for an audit. We also alert the Designated Employee Representative (DER), usually the HOP/EP or studio contact, to any potential violations before they occur. dotPC strives to educate production teams, transportation departments, and drivers by providing them with pertinent information.

What is DECS and what do they do?

dotPC is partnered with DISA Entertainment Compliance Solutions (DECS), a national transportation compliance firm that has developed an online platform specifically designed for the motion picture, commercial, and digital media industries. DECS assists dotPC in achieving state and federal DOT compliance with services such as Hours of Service, Driver Qualification, Background Screening, Drug and Alcohol Management, and the MAPP App for drivers.

What is the DECS MAPP App?

Drivers can download MAPP by DECS for free on the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android) to securely transfer DOT documents digitally, streamlining the compliance process and thus eliminating the need for paper altogether.
